Breaking the Symmetry of Cable Structures as an Instrument for Improving Modal Decomposition to Protect Critical Equipment against UWB Pulses

This work presents a detailed, comprehensive study of new structural design protective devices with circular cross-section (CS) (protective cables) for protecting equipment against ultra-wideband (UWB) pulses. Multiconductor structures 2–5 conductors and without shield are considered. The disadvantages using symmetric configurations cables shown. Their simulation, multivariate analysis, optimization through heuristic search, as well evolutionary strategies, were carried out. Optimization was out according to the amplitude (to minimize maximum voltage level at output structures) time maximize duration exciting signal) criteria. results allowed increasing overall attenuation UWB pulse. article shows possibility improving characteristics such their cascade connection, both among themselves strip structures. parametric presented in range real (used practice) geometric electrophysical parameters terms criteria, matching criterion. also developed prototypes CS three types: 3-conductor cable, flat 4-conductor cable. experimental describe how these created confirm feasibility decompose pulse signal, which previously shown only simulation. Finally, it is that use asymmetry proposed cable can improve characteristics.
